Advanced Systems Design is seeking a Senior Project Manager for our client located in Montgomery, AL.

This position is onsite in Montgomery, AL, and requires in-person availability starting day 1. 

Job Overview:

Our client is seeking an experienced and proactive Project Manager to oversee the coordination, status reporting, and stability of IT project-oriented work efforts. This role is pivotal in ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet the highest quality standards. The Project Manager will be responsible for establishing and implementing project management processes and methodologies, assembling project plans, directing and monitoring team efforts, and addressing issues as they arise. As a Project Manager, you will play a critical role in coordinating communication across all areas of the enterprise, impacting the scope, budget, risk, and resources of the projects you manage. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of project management methodologies, resource management practices, and change management techniques. This mid-level management role also involves managing and mentoring project leaders and other project management staff, making it an excellent opportunity for those looking to advance their leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities

  • Overall Project Coordination and Stability: Responsible for the overall coordination, status reporting, and stability of IT projects. Ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, adhere to high-quality standards, and meet customer expectations.
  • Project Management Processes and Methodologies: Establish and implement project management processes and methodologies tailored to the IT community. Ensure that these processes are consistently applied to maintain project stability and quality.
  • Project Planning and Teamwork Assignments: Assemble comprehensive project plans, define project scopes, and manage teamwork assignments. Direct and monitor work efforts daily, identify resource needs, perform quality reviews, and escalate functional, quality, and timeline issues as necessary.
  • Tracking and Adjusting Project Milestones: Track key project milestones, adjusting project plans and resources to meet customer and organizational needs. Ensure flexibility in project execution to accommodate changes in scope, timeline, or resources.
  • Enterprise-wide Communication: Coordinate communication with all areas of the enterprise that impact the scope, budget, risk, and resources of the projects being managed. Facilitate clear and consistent communication to ensure all stakeholders are informed and aligned with project goals.
  • Assistance to Program Managers: Assist Program Managers in partnering with senior management to identify and prioritize opportunities for utilizing IT to achieve the goals of the enterprise. Act as a key liaison between project teams and executive leadership.
  • Management and Mentorship: Manage one or more cross-functional projects of medium to high complexity, including mentoring project leaders and project management staff. Provide guidance to ensure that projects are effectively managed and that project leaders are developing their skills.
  • Resource and Change Management: Apply resource management practices and change management techniques to ensure that projects are executed efficiently. Manage team resources across multiple projects to avoid over-utilization and ensure balanced workloads.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of IT work experience; including 5+ years managing projects.
  • Experience with projects that involve multiple technologies and functions is expected.
  • Project Management: Demonstrated experience in leading medium to large-sized, moderately to highly complex projects. Proven success in delivering projects on time and within budget 
  • Mid-Level Management: Experience in a middle management role, working under the general direction of senior-level management. Responsible for managing medium to large-sized, moderately to highly complex projects.
  • Project Management Expertise: Extensive knowledge and expertise in project management methodologies (e.g., PMI, Agile, Waterfall) and tools. Proficiency in resource management practices and change management techniques.
  • Leadership and Mentorship: Proven ability to manage and mentor project leaders and project management staff. Ability to manage cross-functional teams and projects with varying levels of complexity.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate and align multiple stakeholders across the enterprise. Experienced in conveying complex project details to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Problem Solving and Adaptability: Ability to identify potential project risks and issues early, and to adapt plans to mitigate them. Capable of working in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional experience in the public sector, particularly in managing large-scale IT projects within government agencies.
  • Experience managing IT projects in a government or public sector environment.
  • Familiarity with project management software and tools commonly used in IT project management (e.g., Microsoft Project, JIRA, Trello).

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Project Management certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) or successful completion of a recognized project management curriculum is required.
Education Preferred:
  • Advanced certifications in project management, such as Agile, Lean Six Sigma, or other relevant areas.
