Advanced Systems Design is seeking a Project Management Specialist for our client located in Montgomery, AL.

This position is onsite in Montgomery, AL, and requires in-person availability starting day 1. 

Job Overview:

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Project Management Specialist. This role is integral to the successful delivery of IT projects across the organization, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet the required quality standards. As a Project Management Specialist, you will be responsible for coordinating project activities, monitoring progress, and maintaining stability within project-oriented work efforts. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone who is ready to contribute to the State’s IT initiatives by implementing project management processes and methodologies that will have a direct impact on the efficiency and success of the organization’s projects. The role will engage in medium-sized projects that are moderately complex, working closely with project teams under the direction of a senior project or program manager. 

Intermediate Professional Level: This role is suited for professionals at an intermediate level, typically responsible for managing one or more small to medium-sized, moderately complex projects. Experience in leading, assigning, and tracking project results is essential.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Project Coordination and Stability: Ensure overall coordination, stability, and status reporting of project-oriented work efforts. Maintain project schedules, track milestones, and ensure that projects are progressing as planned. 
  • Process Implementation: Establish and implement project management processes and methodologies for the IT department to ensure that all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and adhere to high-quality standards. 
  • Project Planning and Execution: Assemble project plans, define project scope, and assign tasks to team members. Direct and monitor the daily work efforts of project teams, identifying resource needs, and performing quality reviews to ensure deliverables meet project requirements. 
  • Issue Management and Escalation: Identify and escalate functional, quality, and timeline issues as they arise, ensuring they are addressed promptly. Adjust project plans and resources to meet the evolving needs of customers and stakeholders.
  •  Resource Coordination: Coordinate with various departments and teams to manage project resources effectively. Ensure that communication is maintained across all areas of the enterprise that impact the project’s scope, budget, risk, and resources. 
  • Support to Senior Management: Assist Project Managers and Program Managers in identifying and prioritizing opportunities for utilizing IT to achieve the goals of the enterprise. Provide support in managing more complex, cross-functional projects when needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of IT work experience; including 3+ years managing projects.
  • Experience in coordinating medium-sized projects is expected.
  • Project Management: Demonstrated experience in leading project teams and delivering projects on time and within budget, with moderate complexity.
  • Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, JIRA)
  • Project Management Knowledge: Must possess advanced knowledge and proficiency in project management methodologies and tools, including resource management practices and change management techniques. Familiarity with standard project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, JIRA) is required.
  • Coordination and Communication: Strong ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with project teams and stakeholders. Able to maintain clear and consistent communication across all project phases.
  • Problem Solving and Adaptability: Ability to identify potential project risks and issues early, and to adapt plans to mitigate them. Capable of working under general direction and adjusting to changing project demands.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional experience in a government or public sector setting, particularly in managing IT projects that involve multiple stakeholders. Earned value experience desired.
  • Experience with project management in a government or public sector environment.
  • Familiarity with IT project management tools and practices specific to state or local government.

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Must have active PMP certification.

Education Preferred:

  • Additional certifications in project management (e.g., CAPM) are desired but not required.
